Why an Intermediate School

As a parent of a Year 7 or 8 student you do have choices as to how your child will be educated. We believe it is important that you find answers to the following questions, before you make your decision.

Intermediate schools are very effective at delivering a focussed education for 10-13 year olds.

Resources
The good news for students is that all an Intermediate's resources are selected only for Year 7 & 8 students. We spend all our resources money on things that are right for them. This makes it easier for Intermediate schools to focus on your child's educational needs and have the resources to make a real difference.

Staff                                                                                                                                                                 All teachers at an Intermediate are specialists at working with this age group.

Preparing for life
Intermediate schools do an excellent job of preparing your child, academically and socially for the next stage in their development. We work with them for two years

Development
The emerging adolescent. Year 7 & 8 students are at a vital stage of their development. They  are starting to think for themselves and develop their own opinions. At this stage you may notice that your child is less willing to accept your opinions and views without questioning them thoroughly first!.

This is part of your child's normal development and should not be confused with the rebelliousness for which teenagers are renowned. It is extremely important that children are able to investigate issues and reach their own opinions in an environment that encourages good thought processes, while providing fair discipline and requiring good behavioural standards. Teaching staff at Intermediate schools are skilled in this area and are able to provide sound guidance for your child at this time.

Child psychologists tell us that this is also the time at which your child's personality and awareness of themselves is developing most strongly. This is the time when they start to separate themselves from their parents and become individuals in their own right. Intermediate staff help support children throughout this process.
